Do you need a licence to ride a 125cc scooter in Italy?
Yes — and it needs to be the right one: in Italy you ride a 125 with an A1, A2 or A licence, held for at least one year. A category B licence works only if issued in Italy. Here's everything you need to know before renting.
Which licence you need for a 125
To ride a 125cc scooter in Italy you need an A1, A2 or A licence, held for at least one year. Holders of an Italian-issued B licence may ride 125s within Italy; foreign B licences do not qualify for 125s in Italy.
This rule applies to drivers in general; the regulatory details may have specific exceptions, which we check with you at pickup anyway.
Minimum age
Our rental policy requires you to be at least 18 years old with a licence valid for at least one year, in line with what is stated in our FAQ.
Foreign tourists
If you are coming from abroad you need a licence of category A1 or higher (A2, A): your national B licence is not enough in Italy — national 125 extensions (like the German B196 code) are only valid in the country that issued them.
If you come from a non-EU country, we recommend also bringing an international driving permit, useful in case of checks.
What you need at pickup
When picking up the scooter in Diano Marina we ask for an ID document and your licence, both originals: we check validity and requirements together before handing over the keys.
